Together in name for thirty-six years now Edinburgh’s The Thanes are still on the chase, looking to create a particular blend for their cauldron of sounds, infused as ever by their love for mid-sixties beat and garage, original punk and psychedelia.
With Angus McPake on organ and guitar, Gordon Brady on drums and vocals, Colin Morris on bass and vocals and Lenny Helsing on guitar and lead vocals, the current line up has been established over the last few years. Notwithstanding the global pandemic the Thanes have started into what is hoped will be a particularly fruitful period with new recordings set for release on a variety of labels over the coming eighteen months; including a special live album in Germany and a four track 7” EP release in France to follow.
The group have played together with many names over the years including the Remains, ? & the Mysterians, Mudhoney and the Sonics.
The Thanes have just kicked off a brace of live dates across the U.K. that saw them open for reconstituted late 70s art-punk legends Swell Maps in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The mini tour will also take in London, Bristol and Leicester before their appearance at Newcastle’s Cluny 2.
