Wandering Oak and Infinity Mirror Records bring you:
• The Myrrors • (USA. Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records / Cardinal Fuzz Records)
The Myrrors hail from Tucson, Arizona and make what they describe as “Sonoran Trance Music” – a hypnotic stew of heavy drone and mountainside krautrock, equally rich in pan-national psychedelia and experimental minimalism. Formed in 2007 by teenage multi-instrumentalists Nik Rayne and Grant Beyschau, international attention came with the release of debut album Burning Circles In The Sky (featuring the underground hit “Warpainting”), before a four-year hiatus saw the band re-emerge with a series of increasingly ambitious and politically-minded releases on cult labels like Cardinal Fuzz, Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records and God Unknown Records.
Elevating their vision with 2017’s Hasta La Victoria LP, the ever-fluctuating ensemble delve even deeper into the Terry Riley-meets-Amon Duul mantras hinted at on previous recordings. Tape loops, saxophones, woodwinds, and South Asian folk instruments all take equal billing to your more typical rock-band instrumentation, all applied to tape in lustrous colour. Live, the Myrrors are an intoxicating night release from desert heat, a cinematic escape into the wilderness, and after a two-month European tour in 2015 saw them smoulder in an intimate Gateshead show, we’ve craved giving them a stage north of the Tyne ever since.
“Hasta La Victoria is a battle cry in the face of overwhelming odds, and crystallises [the band’s] use of minimalism and repetition to maximal effect. Moving beyond the confines of psych, Hasta La Victoria soundtracks an endless, ecstatic journey to the burning horizon.” – Shindig Magazine
