He has appeared on the main acoustic stage of many of the major UK blues festivals and has made a name for himself on the acoustic blues and roots scene. His inspirations include Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller, Willie McTell, & Fred McDowell.

His first album won him a place in the final of Guitarist’s Acoustic Guitarist of the Year Competition at Wembley, where his performance was described as:     “full of lilting passion”.(Guitarist magazine)

In the same year his appearance at Cambridge, alongside Jacques Stotzem, Woody Mann and John Renbourn was described as:   “two nights that will inspire any guitarist” (Guitarist, Nov2000).

Following numerous requests for an album reflecting his live set, Fingerpicking, Ragtime Bottleneck &Blues, ( including “a blistering tribute to Blind Blake” (Blues Matters) was released.  East Coast Fret, an album of completely original guitar instrumentals “possessed of a bucketload of class”.(R2 ) was then followed by, Bottleneck Ahead, one track of which was chosen as one of the Blues is Back radio show picks from the blues albums of 2016.

Fatea magazine described Michael as “one of today’s most inspirational performers ploughing this rootsy furrow”

Recent major blues festival appearances include :Durham & Cleethorpes, Skegness Colne and Southport where he was described as the “final bit of icing on the Atkinson’s cake” (Blues in Britain).

This gig is extra special as he is celebrating twenty five years of being a full time professional musician

and coincides with the production of his 5th album an exciting collection of original songs which will be available to pre order on the night.

This is a rare opportunity to see Michael playing in Newcastle and is not to be missed.
