Wandering Oak brings you:
• L.A. WITCH • (USA. Suicide Squeeze Records / Greenway Records)
The sultry, reverb-soaked rock & roll of L.A. Witch transports you back to a vision of California’s past, under the fizz of dusty neon: of palm trees and Hell’s Angels, warm nights in smoky rooms, spilt beer and dreams wrecked off the side of Route 66.
This isn’t music for the masses. It’s dangerous magic for miscreants, burnouts and down-and-out dreamers. Whether they’re conjuring the downtrodden cowpunk of The Gun Club, the seedy metropolitan balladry ofThe Velvet Underground (album), or the beefed-up blues of Black Sabbath, L.A. Witch remind us of that exhilarating revelation that a city can elevate you just as quickly as it can grind you into the dirt.
“A mix of forlorn psych folk, lethargic lo-fi blues and boozy garage rock drones steeped in moody, drugged-out surf reverb… Although the band settle in somewhere between Dum Dum Girls, The Velvet Underground andWarpaint, they almost seem like they’re from another dimension altogether.” – SoundDiego (NBC 7 San Diego)
• Night Shades •
Night Shades are a garage punk/rock & roll band formed when guitar / vocal duo Shaun Blackwell and Clare McNamara left Wellington, New Zealand and began honing their darkly atmospheric sound in London with drummer Niall Kavanagh. Upon taking to the stage, Night Shades began nailing supports in the capital with Guantanamo Baywatch, The Entrance Band, YAK, Skinny Girl Diet, Dan Sartain – Official, The Gories… and L.A. Witch, who they’re now touring with by request.
“Their garage punk howl is attention grabbing, and they know how to make a noise”
– Glen Bushell, Punktastic.com
